Anyone here with any experience in dating people who are deaf/hard of hearing? I know they usually tend to be somewhat capable of lip reading, but I’m still somewhat worried about getting things wrong. E specially since I tend to talk a lot and fast as fuck when I’m nervous . The fact that she’s 12 years younger than me ain’t helping..

Does she at least pass the “half your age plus seven” rule? :D
I say go for it. Imagine it like dating someone who is ESL — an opportunity to learn new communication skills for both of you. That slight barrier might even be an advantage because you’ll be more deliberate about what you say.

She’s 26 I’ll be 38.. so yeah, just.
By ESL I assume you mean English as a second laguage, I’d be more comfortable about that tbh.. we’d be on even ground then. :)

As a Deaf guy, talk normally, act normal, and trust me, she will know what to do. Biggest advice: be open minded, she might want to use paper and pen, gesturing or any other means of communication, be willing to try to learn our language because it makes it much easier for both of you

I do know some sign language, and I’d love to learn more.
I’m just worried about the fact that I tend to be a motormouth w hen I’m nervous

she’ll likely be more mature due to her disability, so that could be a positive. She may also be slightly more naive. As stated, sign language is probably easier to learn than a foreign language. I dated a deaf girl in high school briefly, worked with and became friends with a guy that is mostly deaf and my daughters mom had a best friend who was. She’s just regular, except she can ignore you politely.
It would be remiss of me if I didn’t mention this, but it could be helpful in the event this worked out. Sex can be very indiscreet, so if your living situation requires that it be, keep it in mind. She may be entirely aware of this and mention it as well, but just in case.

I live alone, and we’re going to my cabin in the mountains.. So I can’t fathom a way sex would be loud enough to scare anyone if it comes to that :P Unless I should care about scaring wolves or something :)

Not in the dating arena, but my experience in the past was that my beard seemed to make it more difficult for some of my patients that lip read.
